Leebaert v. Harrington
Argued: December 12, 2002
Decided: June 13, 2003

Background: Turk Leebaert filed a case against Roger Ludlowe Middle School of the Fairfield Public School System that his son should not have mandatory attendance for his health class. The school fought back saying by law, students had to attend with the exception of the Family Life section of the course. Leebaert lost the case by the decision that it was the school's policy to have mandatory attendance and parents were only able to remove their children when it came to the Family Life portion of the class.

Impact on Teaching: If students had the option to attend which ever class their pleased or refused to attend, the school would be in complete chaos. I feel it is necessary for students to have their opinions be heard but not to receive 100% freedom of their education as adolescents.
